Website Design for a Landscaping or Gardening Business

A landscaping site is sold before anyone calls you

Landscaping and gardening are almost entirely visual businesses. A potential client isn't reading about your process; they're looking at your work and deciding whether you can make their place look like that. Which means the single most important thing on your site isn't the text — it's a large, well-organised gallery of real, finished jobs. The sites that fail either have no photos, or have tiny dark ones, or worst, stock photos of gardens that aren't yours.

Here's what a landscaping or gardening site needs.

The gallery is the whole pitch

Put your best work front and centre, large. Ten to twenty real photos of finished gardens — before-and-afters if you have them, with a one-line caption each ("rear garden, timber deck and native planting, [suburb]"). A visitor scrolling through these is doing 90% of the deciding before they ever call. This is the part that wins jobs, and it's the part most landscaping sites under-invest in. If you do nothing else, take decent photos of your work and put them on the site, big.

Be clear about what you do and where

"Garden design and construction", "regular maintenance and mowing", "retaining walls and paving", "irrigation and planting". The person searching "garden maintenance [suburb]" or "landscaper [suburb]" needs to land on a page that says exactly that. A homepage that says "creating beautiful outdoor spaces" helps no one decide. Specific services, specific areas — this is the SEO and the conversion in one.

Make enquiry easy, including the photo part

A landscaping enquiry usually starts with "here's my yard, what could you do?" Make that easy — a short form that lets people describe what they want, and ideally a way to send a photo of their space. A clear "get a quote" or "book a site visit" button. The friction of "call us" loses the people who'd rather show you a photo than describe their yard over the phone. (More on this: how to get more leads from your website.)

Local search is everything for landscaping

Landscaping is local — people search "landscaper [suburb]", "garden maintenance [suburb]". The businesses that show up are the ones structured for it. A site with service pages and suburb-level content books more than one that doesn't. We wrote the diagnosis: why your website isn't getting any customers.

The pages a landscaping site needs

A homepage with the gallery, services, and an enquiry button. A gallery page (or galleries by service type). A page per service. A service-areas page. A contact page with a site-visit booking. That's the spine. A few project write-ups help with search over time. (How many pages: how many pages a small business website should have.)

What to skip

Stock photos of perfect gardens that aren't yours. A long "our philosophy" essay. A pricing page with no prices (just say "quotes on request"). Anything that delays someone seeing your work. A landscaping site should load fast, look like the work you do, and make it easy to show you their yard.

What it costs

A proper landscaping site — gallery-led, specific, structured for local search — sits below what most operators assume. The numbers: how much a website costs. For a landscaping business, it pays for itself in one or two new jobs.
